Ally accessibility indicators not displayed for attached assignment files (New: 5/13/2025)

Issue

When files are attached to the instructions section of an assignment in Ultra, the Ally accessibility indicators, including the icon to choose a different format, are not visible to students.

Workaround

Post the assignment instructions as a separate item in the content page above the assignment.

Blackboard Inc. is aware of this known issue and are working on a resolution. At this time, there is no known date that this will be resolved, but we will continue to update this page if there are any changes.

Alternate formats not showing for download only documents (New: 3/12/2024)

Issue

When uploading a file to an Ultra doc and selecting the "Download Only" option from the menu, the accessible alternative formats are not listed.

Workaround

Use the "Download and View" or "View Only" option for the alternative formats to be available.

Excessive toolbar space limits submission readability when grading (New: 9/9/2025)

Issue

When viewing a student's submission, a large portion of the screen is occupied by toolbars or ribbons at the top. This limits the visible area of a student's paper to roughly 1/3 of the page, even on larger monitors.

More options menu ignored by screen readers on decorative images (New: 7/29/2025)

Issue

Images marked as decorative are still being read by screen readers, including NVDA and VoiceOver. This includes the "More Options" listing on each image, which should be ignored.

Question score textbox gets focus of keyboard navigation, but does not change to edit mode (New: 12/8/2025)

Issue

When editing a test and navigating by a keyboard, it allows you to change the numerical digit of the question's score on the main navigation without entering the editing interface. There is no indication that the change won't be saved when they navigate away from that textbox.

Workaround

Ultra course folder does not expand on copy items menu with JAWS enabled (New: 9/15/2025)

Issue

When using the JAWS screen reader, a user attempting to copy a course via the "Copy Item" feature experiences unexpected behavior: pressing Enter on a folder selects the course checkbox instead of expanding the folder. This issue does not occur when JAWS is disabled.

Announcements

Announcements message gets cleared out after staying idle or writing for more than 15 minutes (New: 9/29/2025)

Issue

When an instructor creates a new announcement, and either writes for a long time, or stays idle, after approximately 15-20 minutes, the description gets cleared out automatically, without explanation or warning.

Workaround

Either close the blank page, or write longer announcements in Word and copy it in.

Announcements not displaying in the activity stream (New: 12/8/2025)

Issue

Announcements created within a course do not appear on the Activity Stream for enrolled users, even when the notification settings are correctly configured.

Workaround

Send the announcement as an email as well, to ensure students view it.

Issue

When an instructor creates an announcement, then returns to view the list of students who have seen the announcement, the list is blank. Students are able to view the announcements, but the viewer panel does not properly track and display who has viewed it.

Assignments and Tests

Altering question order freezes assignment screen (New: 10/5/2023)

Issue

In an Ultra Assignment or Test where there are multiple questions, when an instructor changes the order of the questions, the screen will freeze. When the screen is closed and re-opened, the new order is presented.

Workaround

Close the frozen screen and re-open it. The new changes should be saved.

Calculated formula answer including space between sign and number is marked wrong (New: 1/22/2026)

Issue

When answering a calculated formula question with a space between the sign and the value, the answer is considered incorrect.

Workaround

Instructors can check the student answers to confirm they are incorrect, or set the calculations to not have a negative number as the answer.

Fill in the blank questions corrupt python code formatting in student view (New: 10/28/2025)

Issue

When Python code is added to a Fill in the Blank question, the formatting displays correctly on the test creation page, but becomes corrupt in the student attempt. Characters such as square brackets, quotes, and mathematical operators are removed or broken. This affects how code-based questions appear to students, and make the question invalid and unanswerable.

Fill in the blank questions fail to render when square brackets are used in math editor (New: 9/16/2025)

Issue

When creating a Fill in the Blank question, inserting a matrix with square brackets using the Math Editor causes the system to misinterpret the brackets as placeholders. As a result, the question text does not render correctly, and broken markup is displayed instead.

Incorrect grading for very small numbers with significant figures in calculated formula questions (New: 1/22/2026)

Issue

When using significant figures rounding in calculated formula questions, answers that are very small numbers (more than 4 decimal places) are unexpectedly rounded as though it were set to use decimal places instead.

Workaround

Instructors can verify student responses when grading, or choose to use decimal rounding instead of significant figure rounding.

Incorrect label on true/false questions on forms (New: 12/30/2025)

Issue

When creating a True/False question on a Form, the text should display "Select an option pair". Instead, it displays "Select an option pair and pick a correct answer". A correct answer cannot be selected since there are no correct answers on Forms.

Issue

When a student selects an answer on a multiple-choice question, the text of the selected option will turn white if the original text was formatted, such as bolded, italicized, underlined, or struck through.

Issue

Issue

When a student has a course-wide due date accommodation and is taking a timed assignment, the time remaining indicator does not appear after they start the assignment. It will appear as normal in a test.

Cross-site tracking preventing login and access to integrated applications (New: 3/11/2025)

Issue

When users attempt to log into Blackboard on Safari or Chrome, they may receive an error message stating they cannot log in. This may also affect users when they attempt to open an integrated application, such as VoiceThread or a textbook publisher.

Workaround

By turning off cross-site tracking, users are able to log in successfully. Instructions for each browser are below.

Safari:

Click Safari in the top left corner of the screen
Select Preferences or Settings
Click Privacy
Uncheck the box next to Prevent cross-site tracking
Close the window and reload the page

Chrome:

Click the three dots in the upper right corner
Click Settings
Click Privacy and Security

Select Allow third-party cookies
Verify Send a "Do Not Track" request with your browsing traffic is toggled off

Issue

Issue

When an instructor uploads an image for the course banner, the system displays a "preview" label, but the image does not render.

Issue

When creating a table and adding a document into the table, the name of the document, and the table itself, will not display correctly.

Folders close after submitting an assignment (New: 12/8/2025)

Issue

When students submit an assignment located within a folder, all folders automatically close once the submission is completed and submitted. The student must reopen the folders to navigate to other content within that folder.

Granular course copy generates email notifications for existing course content (New: 1/21/2026)

Issue

When an instructor copies content from one course to another, by checking individual items or folders, all enrolled users will receive emails stating that there is new content in the course. However, the email notification will correspond to the total number of content items, not the new items.

Images with altered aspect ratio always inserted into first cell of table on documents (New: 12/8/2025)

Issue

When adding an image to a cell in a table, and altering the aspect ration from Original to any other ratio, the image will appear in the first cell in the table in the top left, instead of the intended cell.

Workaround

Copy and paste the image from the first cell to the correct cell, or keep the original aspect ratio.

Indented list format not saved when changing font size in content editor (New: 9/9/2025)

Issue

When changing the font size on an item in the content editor that is part of an indented list, the indented list formatting is not saved when the font sized is changed successfully.

Issue

When editing a table inside of a textbox and selecting the contents of only one row, it will instead select the entire table.

Issue

The pencil icon intended for editing image captions does not function as expected. Nothing happens when the user clicks on the pencil icon.

Viewing problems in learning modules with release conditions and force sequence (New: 6/20/2024)

Issue

When an instructor creates a learning module with force sequence, and place a release condition on an individual item inside of the learning module that allows for only a specific user or group to access it, the rest of the students in the course cannot advance past the item with release conditions. They will see the existing items that they need to access, but they will have a lock and cannot be unlocked.

Workaround

Remove any release conditions. If an item needs to be set with release conditions for only a specific user or group of users, list the item outside of or at the bottom of the learning module.

Grades, Grading Tasks, Feedback and Rubrics

Bb Annotate: Issues with comments on submissions (New: 1/9/2026)

Issue

There are several issues in the textbox when using Bb Annotate to comment on a submission:

When attempting to change the font size below size 18 for a comment, it will display the correct size at first. However, if you leave the attempt and come back, the font will return to size 18, and only half of the comment will be available.
The cursor does not change color when a new color is selected. The text will appear in the new color, but the cursor will remain in the old color.
Copying comments from a Microsoft Word document does not retain formatting in the comment textbox.
When moving the cursor back to the beginning of the textbox, the font color changes to black if another color is being used.

Workaround

Use size 18 font size or larger.

Do not copy comments from Word; type directly into the textbox in Annotate.

Calculated column not updated in Student View after grade override (New: 12/30/2025)

Issue

When an instructor overrides a student's grade from the Gradebook Grid View, the calculated column updates correctly in the Grades view, but does not reflect the updated value in the Student view.

Refresh the page, or post the grade to the student, for the calculation to show correctly.

Deleting and recreating release conditions makes gradebook column unavailable (New: 1/14/2026)

Issue

When an instructor deletes and recreates a release condition for an assignment or test, the corresponding gradebook column becomes unavailable.

Workaround

Do not delete the release condition and edit the existing rule instead.

Draft submissions affected by automatic zeros and passing due date (New: 12/8/2025)

Issue

If a student saves a draft for an assignment without submitting, the status displays that the student has a draft and that they've opened the assessment. Once Automatic Zeros is enabled and the due date has passed, the data is removed and shows that the student has no submission and has not opened the assignment.

At this time, there is no known workaround. Students are able to see the submission draft if the assignment is visible to students.

Issue

When attempting to download a gradebook with overridden grades, the feedback for the attempts where a grade was overridden will not be visible in the downloaded file.

Issue

Formatted text copied into grading feedback causes inline grade panel to disappear (New: 1/13/2026)

Issue

When instructors copy formatted text into the feedback box, with some or all of the text having a different color, the HTML formatting of that text causes the inline grading panel to disappear, leaving a large white space on the page.

Do not copy formatted text with color into the feedback box.

Issue

Issue

Issue

Manually overridden scores in gradebook are not reflected in downloaded results file (New: 10/21/2024)

Issue

When an instructor manually overrides the score for a test or assignment in the gradebook, the updated scores appear correctly in the grid view. However, these manually overridden scores do not match the scores displayed in the offline workbook or the downloaded results file.

Issue

When instructors override grades on a submission that has an attached rubric, the Gradebook continues to display the submissions as requiring grading.

Issue

Issue

When creating a points-based rubric, sometimes the total points possible are rounded inconsistently. This occurs with points that contain decimal points.

Viewing submission focuses on Bb Annotate comment instead of submission (New: 5/14/2025)

Issue

When a user goes to view a submission that has comments from Bb Annotate, instead of being able to view the submission on the screen, it instead focuses on one of the comments. This leaves the submission and other comments inaccessible in the window.

Resize the screen when viewing or adding comments.

Weighted total columns display incorrect rounded percentage (New: 12/8/2025)

Issue

When an instructor sets up a weighted total column and grades are entered, the displayed grade will show incorrect rounding for scores with more than 2 decimal points. For example, a score of 74.494999999% will display as 74.5% instead of 74.49%.

Groups

Group attempt logs do not show attempt time (New: 12/8/2025)

Issue

When viewing attempt logs for a group assignment submission, the attempt log will incorrectly display the attempt time as 0:00:00.

Group submission grading by user opens the wrong group (New: 1/14/2026)

Issue

When grading a group submission by selecting a user from the Students list, the system incorrectly opens the first group instead of the group that the user belongs to.

Select the group from the left-hand grading panel that you would like to grade.

Group submissions will not display content or feedback with release conditions (New: 7/29/2025)

Issue

When a group assignment is configured with a release condition that hides the item after a specific date, students are unable to view the submission ones the item is no longer visible.

Disable the hide after date. To prevent late submissions, turn on the setting to prohibit late submissions after the due date.

No indication that feedback is saved on group submissions (New: 7/22/2024)

Issue

When an instructor adds feedback to a group submission and saves the feedback, the text editor does not exit Edit Mode, and there is no visual indication that the feedback has saved.

Workaround

The feedback should be saved automatically. Reload the page, clicking Save if prompted to save or discard the feedback, and the feedback should be visible.

Self-enrollment indicator missing in group discussion settings (New: 10/21/2025)

Issue

When creating a new group discussion configured for self-enrollment, the discussion page no longer displays the "Self-Enroll" indicator in the settings section. Previously, this label appeared next to the count clearly identify discussions that allowed students to join in groups on their own.

Student preview access to group members redirects to activity stream (New: 1/13/2026)

Issue

When using Student Preview mode and attempting to see the members of a group, the student preview user will be redirected to the Activity Stream page.

Enrolled students should be able to view the group members. Instructors can view the members by looking at the group set.

Submit attempt button unresponsive when a student joins self-enrollment group with attempt already in progress (New: 10/28/2025)

Issue

When an assessment is configured for submission by self-enrollment groups, if a student selects a group that already has an existing attempt, either submitted or in progress, the "Start Attempt" button remains visible, but does not respond when clicked.

Workaround

Make the self-enrollment period end before the assessment is visible to students or before students start submitting.

Journal grade pill deletion frequently unsuccessful (New: 10/29/2025)

Issue

When instructors attempt to delete grades from the grade pill for journals, the grades remain unchanged after deletion attempts.

Issue

Issue

Issue

When a student enters the course after a new announcement has been posted, the pop-up window does not appear.

Issue

Issue

When students submit a test attempt while disconnected from the internet, the attempt will not submit. After reconnecting to the internet, they are still unable to submit their attempt.

Make sure to check the internet connection prior to starting the attempt, and when possible, use a wired internet connection when taking a test.

Unable to download overall feedback attachment for group assignment attempts (New: 12/8/2025)

Issue

Students are unable to download files attached in the Overall Feedback section for a group assignment attempt when accessing them view the gradebook view button.
