Browser Issues

Issue

Internet Explorer is no longer compatible with Blackboard. Blackboard Inc. has decided to stop supporting the use of Internet Explorer with Blackboard because Microsoft will no longer be supporting or updating the browser.

Workaround

Use Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Microsoft Edge.

Potential Resolution Date

Internet Explorer is no longer supported. Please switch to another browser.

Issue

When using Firefox on a Mac and creating an Assignment with multiple attempts, the maximum attempt box does not appear.

Workaround

Alternating between Unlimited Attempts and Multiple Attempts will make the maximum number of attempts box visible.

Potential Resolution Date

Blackboard Inc. is aware of this known issue. At this time, no resolution will be provided.

Issue

Students who use the Blackboard App to view grades may see grades rounded differently than on a computer. Any user who has a question about their grade when using the app should check their grade on a computer first, before contacting their instructor or Blackboard Support.

Workaround

Please check your grades on a computer before contacting your instructor or Blackboard Support.

Potential Resolution Date

At this time, we are unaware of a potential resolution date. As Blackboard Inc. updates the Blackboard mobile app, we will continue testing and updating this page.

Issue

Users who are using Microsoft Edge as a browser may receive a 404 Error when attempting to open content within their browser.

Workaround

The TU Blackboard team always recommends using Firefox or Chrome when accessing Blackboard. However, if you need to use Edge, the following workaround should allow you to open the documents within your browser without getting the error.

  1. Open Edge settings
  2. Select Downloads
  3. Set Open Office Files in Browser to Off

Potential Resolution Date

At this time, there is no known resolution date. However, Blackboard Inc. is aware of this issue and working to resolve it.

Issue

When an Instructor is grading an assignment and adds multiple attachments in the Feedback to Learner box, the attachments show as one link. All links are added, however the line breaks that should be present between the file names are not added. You are able to open each of the individual files by clicking on different areas of the link.

Workaround

At this time, the workaround is to add one file at a time. After adding your first file, press Enter in the Feedback to Learner box to move to the next line, then attach the next document.

Issue

When you create a rubric and attach it to an assignment, you should be able to grade an assignment, then remove the rubric from the graded content and edit it. However, regardless of whether or not it is attached to an assignment, the rubric is no longer able to be edited.

Workaround

The current workaround is to remove the rubric from the assignment and create a copy of it. Make the necessary edits to the copy and delete the original rubric, then attach the copy to the assignment.

Issue

When the SafeAssign option is enabled for an assignment, it cannot be turned off for the assignment once it has been saved. If the assignment is edited and SafeAssign is unchecked, the setting will not save.

Workaround

If an assignment needs to have SafeAssign turned off, you have two options:

  1. Delete the assignment and create a new one. Please note: If you delete an assignment that already has submissions, the submissions will be deleted along with the assignment.
  2. Check the box that says "Exclude submissions from the Institutional and Global References Databases". This will still run the assignment through SafeAssign, but it will not be saved to the SafeAssign database and will be treated as a draft in SafeAssign.
