The Towson University Journal of International Affairs is honored to host the dean of the TU Honors College Dr. Alison Rios Millett McCartney in the 13th presentation of the Eric A. Belgrad Speaker Series on Monday, November 11th from 6:00-8:00pm in LA 4310. The topic of Dr. McCartney’s lecture is:

“Global Youth Civic Engagement: Changing Patterns and Challenges to Democratic Norms”

Today’s youth are often chastised for insufficient participation in their local, national, and global communities or for the ways in which they voice their needs and concerns. To what extent have we seen changes in the norms, expectations, types, and amount of youth civic participation in democracies around the world? To what extent should youth expect that their participation will matter in political decision-making? Dr. McCartney will explore these questions and the events surrounding the 2024 U.S. elections in addition to other recent elections around the world.
