Abstract

As indicated by the thriving relationship between Colombia and multinational corporations, foreign investment will continue to play a major role in Colombia’s future development. Trade relations between Latin America and the United States have always been important, particularly after World War I. Since then, American companies searching for lucrative markets have invested in Colombia because of its growing middle class. When pressure to regulate foreign investments began to mount in the 1960s and 1970s, many countries did not want to invest in Colombia any longer. However, a shift toward deregulation is now occurring, and several new foreign exchange projects are now rebuilding Colombia’s relationship with multinational corporations. This relationship must be sustained because it offers many tangible benefits for all parties involved.
