Volume XXXII – Number 1

James C. Roberts

Abstract: This article introduces three articles that each addresses one central theme in three different ways: women in international affairs. The first article, written by Spike Peterson, addresses the role of gender hierarchy in international relations theory. The second article, written by Carol Weil, takes a different approach to this theme by writing about the participation of women in international affairs and policy-making. The last article, written by Esther Wangari, takes a more personal approach to the central issue. She writes about Kenyan families who have females as the heads of the households and how they were affected by pre- and post-colonial imperialism. These three writers take different approaches to addressing the role of women in international affairs and demonstrate the importance of this article.

Keyword: Women, Gender Hierarchy, policy-making, pre-colonial imperialism, post-colonial imperialism, female heads of household.
