Douglass House

“Douglass House is where I met my best college friend. It made the first two years of my college experience very comfortable since I was surrounded by people who have shared interests. There was always a friendly face at the desk and I just felt safe there.” –Mary Martin ’20

Douglass House, as you may know already, is the home to the Honors College Residential Learning Community, housing students from the college as well as acting as a location for many of its events. It is a hotel style room set up, with two students to a room sharing a bathroom.

Amenities included include two beds, two dressers, two desks with chairs, and a microwave/fridge combination. You’ll each have your own closet and share a bathroom with a shower, toilet, and hallway sink.

“Douglass House is its own little community on campus. Favorite Part – You can meet people that you take honors classes with in your own residential hall rather than trying to find somewhere else to study together.” –Lauren Miles

“I love living in Douglass House and being surrounded by all my friends. It’s always nice to see familiar faces in the halls.” –Amy Augustino ’22

“Douglass is a very embracing community for Honors students. My favorite parts are the floor events that the RAs have every month, the quiet study lounges, and the events in the MPR.” –Austin Raymond ’23

Douglass House is home to many of the Honors College’s events. Whether it’s student directors set up in the lobby with snacks, an HCLC meeting, or a pancake event in the Multipurpose Room, you’ll often find things happening when you enter Douglass House. Even if there’s not an event scheduled, you may see students hanging out watching TV in the lobby or studying in a quiet lounge.

“Douglass House was a great resident hall for your lowerclassmen years. It helps you build friendship and find leadership opportunities such as Building Council, HCLC, and HOC. My favorite part of living there was knowing other honors student lived all around me!” –Jason Wong ’20

“Douglass House is a great environment. The staff and students get along very well, and it’s very welcoming. Quiet lounges and community lounges are constantly used by students studying and doing work. There are frequent events that the RAs and building council hold, and it’s a great way to meet some new people.” –Julia Roush

In Douglass House, your neighbors are likely to be your classmates, too. Since any incoming Honors student living on campus is placed in Douglass, you’ll run into a lot of students that you may also see in class! It’s easy to meet up with others for projects or studying, and you’ll have more opportunities to bond with the students in the Honors community.

“Douglass House is like a home away from home. It is a community of people with similar passions and values but with diverse backgrounds and experiences. It is very easy to meet some of your best friends in Douglass just by leaving your door open or going to the building events that are always going on. There is always something happening in Douglass House and it seems like its residents are excited to participate and get to know each other. I met my best friends in the quiet lounges on my floor during my freshman year. It is also really nice that a lot of the people in your honors classes are right there in the building so if you need help, you can go knock on their door.” –Kristen Gittings ’22

Though the room featured in this video is of a Barton House room, Douglass and Barton have the same layout and thus this is included so that you can see more room examples and perspectives.
