Getting Involved in Honors

For a list of on-campus involvement opportunities at Towson University, visit Involved@TU. This page will list information about Honors-specific groups and opportunities.

Want to make sure you hear when each club gets started? Fill out this form to indicate interest, and your name and email will go to each club leader when the semester begins. Though information will also be sent in the Honors College Weekly and elsewhere, this guarantees that you’ll be on the group’s specific email list!

Though we are still unsure about what campus events and meetings will look like this year, here is a list of ways to get involved within the Honors College. Keep an eye on your TU email for more information and opportunities to attend meetings!

Honors College Leadership Council:

HCLC is a student group that acts as a clearinghouse for further student involvement in the Honors College. We regularly discuss these opportunities and also build community within the Honors College and Douglass House. Within HCLC is three committees: Service, Programming, and Marketing. The Service committee plans and organizes service-related events, both on campus and requiring off-campus travel. The Programming committee plans events, usually occurring monthly or more often, within Douglass House. Each of those two committees decides amongst themselves what types of events or projects they’d like to plan. The Marketing committee helps to advertise and promote each of these events, and others within the Honors College.

In the past, HCLC has met every other week in the Douglass House multipurpose room. As we approach the fall semester, you’ll receive word about HCLC meetings for the year. All events within Douglass House are open to anyone from the Honors College, though some specific rules may be altered due to COVID19. Pay attention to your TU email for these updates.

The Book Exchange

The Honors College hosts a lending library in both Douglass House and the York Road office space. Students can borrow textbooks, fiction, and non-fiction books that have been donated by members of the Honors Community. Read more about the Book Exchange here.

Honors Helping Hands

Meeting during HCLC in the form of the Service committee, Honors Helping Hands plans service events, collection drives, and other projects. Members of the group can plan and implement ideas of their own with support from the group. Read more about HHH here.

Honors Recruitment Officers

These students assist with campus events like Open Houses and TU4U, as well as Honors-specific events like the Celebration of Scholarship and Learning. ROs agree to talk with and possibly email prospective students as a way to provide an authentic student perspective for students considering Towson University and its Honors College.

Honorables of Color

Our newest Honors organization, Honorables of Color was founded just last year. HOC strives to create a space for students of color within the Honors College in order to represent and connect these students, while celebrating their successes.

KIVA Initiative

An Honors branch of a worldwide organization, KIVA raises money for microloans, loaning money to small business owners around the world who need help with startup costs. Read more about the KIVA Initiative in part of this article.

Not Your Granny’s Book Club

Towson Honors students founded NYGBC several years ago. They select a book or two every semester and gather for book discussions.

Undergraduate Research Club

The Undergraduate Research Club is a group open to all TU students, but it started within the Honors College and works closely with its community. URC provides opportunities for students to discuss and present their research, as well as providing resources for any students interested in research. You don’t have to have a project to join: many people go to URC meetings just to learn and observe student researchers! Read more about URC here.

And more! More student groups can be founded, so if you have any ideas, talk to the Student Directors at HCLC once it gets started for the year.
