Family Conference: First Conference and Interpreting Data

Learners are challenged to practice the skill of effectively engaging with a parent in potentially difficult or emotionally charged conversations about the social or academic progress of their child.

Linda Walker has arrived for a regularly scheduled conference at the beginning of the school year. The learner has already informally met at Open House, but this is their first teacher conference. The purpose of this conference is to discuss the beginning of the year assessments. Be prepared to discuss the attached data sheet for the first time. The learner may also discuss how her child is assimilating into the classroom, relationships,

strengths, and areas that need improvement.

 

Family Conference: Mid-Year Conference and Social Concerns

Learners are challenged to practice the skill of effectively engaging with a parent in potentially difficult or emotionally charged conversations about the social or academic progress of their child. Linda Walker has arrived for a regularly scheduled mid-year conference in December. The learner’s goal is to discuss the third-grade data sheets, and that Lily is progressing at a typical rate for a third grader. However, in the middle of the conference, Ms. Walker brings up concerns with how she perceives social situations are being handled.

 

Family Conference: Mid-Year Conference and Reading Concerns

Learners are challenged to practice the skill of effectively engaging with a parent in potentially difficult or emotionally charged conversations about the social or academic progress of their child.

Linda Walker has arrived for a regularly scheduled mid-year conference in December. The learner will need to discuss the third-grade data sheets. The learner will need to let her know that although her child seems to enjoy reading, her child has been identified as a student of concern due to her last SRI score and performance in Reading. They will need to notify Ms. Walker that her child will receive supplemental reading instruction with the Intensive Reading Coach instead of having recess.
