Towson Pre-Law Society Bylaws and Membership

Bylaws:

  • Membership is open to all current Towson University students
  • We welcome students of all majors

 

  • The Executive Board is outlined as follows:

A) President (P)         B) Vice President (VP)        C) Secretary

D) Treasurer       E) Senator Liaison                   F) Volunteer/Fundraising Chair

G) Social Media Chair

  • A basic outline of each Executive Board members’ responsibilities is as follows:

A) President (P):
To oversea the Executive Board and club decisions in addition to appointing new members

B) Vice President (VP):
Assist the President in overseeing the Executive Board

C) Secretary:
To record and publish the meeting minutes for both Executive Board meetings and general society meetings meeting via email to the Executive Board member

D) Treasurer:
Monitor the Pre-Law Society’s account balance, transfer of funds, and
make purchases for materials and events

E) Senator Liaison:
Responsible for receiving/sending emails to Society’s SGA Senator and meeting with SGA Senator on a rolling period

F) Volunteer/Fundraising Chair:

Coordinate volunteer opportunities/fundraising events

G) Social Media Chair:
Management of the Society’s social media accounts; responsible for
recording events via photographs and videos

  • The organizational structure for the Executive Board shall be as follows:

1) The (P) and (VP) share primary authority over the Executive Board

2) The President is required to approve all final decisions of the Executive Board

3) All Executive Board members (withholding the (P), (VP)) shall have equal authority
under the (P) and (VP)

 

  • Appointment to the Executive Board will be determined via a candidate interview with the current standing (P) and by unanimous approval by at least 3 other current Executive Board members other than the (P)

 

  • A member who holds a position on the Executive Board must attend all meetings during the semester

1) If an Executive Board member is going to miss a meeting, it is their responsibility to
notify either the (P) or (VP) prior to the meeting.

2) If an Executive Board member misses more than three meetings during the semester
they will be asked to step down from their position, after having met with the (P) and
(VP) to discuss their absence, exceptions will be determined on a case by case basis.

 

  • Executive Board members are expected to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to them, failure to perform their responsibilities will require that the Executive Board member in question be asked to have a meeting with the (P) or (VP); the Executive Board member’s termination in the position may be reasonably expected as a result of the conversation

 

  • The Blog Committee Board positions shall be outlined as follows:
    A) Chief Editors                B) Associate Editors

 

  • Chief Editors answer solely to the (P) and (VP), or the entire Executive Board as a collective

 

  • Assistant Editors answer solely to the Chief Editors, except in the case of disciplinary action, in which the Assistant Editors are answerable to the (P) and (VP)

 

  • Removal of a member from the Blog Committee Board positions will be determined as follows:

A) Chief Editors will be held accountable by the (P) and (VP)
B) Assistant Editors will be held accountable by the Chief Editors, failure to meet
responsibilities will result in Assistant Editors’ dismissal from the online
publication

 

  • All Members, from both the Executive board and Blog Committee Board are expected to participate in community service events held by the Pre-Law Society

 

 General Membership:

  • This is a society open to students of all majors
  • Earning a position on the Executive Board is a great way to boost your resume and

application to law school!

  • Networking is a valuable tool that is accessible to any student who attends a guest speaker
