Lab 3 – Tangent Lines and Linear Approximation



3. The tangent line of a function serves as a linear approximation to the function. We can use this fact to estimate some values of functions. In the SageMath app below, you can find an approximation to the function using a known value and the tangent line. First, set \( f(x) \) and \( a \) to the specified values in the lab report. Then, use the tangent line to approximate the value at the nearby point \( b \). Check off “Show f(b)?” to see the actual value at the point \( b \) and see how close your estimate was.
