Susan Leslie Mann
Susan Mann (nee Grubb) grew up in Texas and performed with professional companies, including the Hartford Chamber Ballet, Das Bonner Ballet in Germany, and the Sharir Dance Company (modern) before receiving her M.F.A. in Choreography from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro where she met her soul-mate and future husband, John. Her daughter, Emily, grew up in university-land with two parent/teachers, and completed her Ph.D. in 2024. Susan has created 44 new works on three professional companies and four universities in genres ranging from musical theatre through aerial dance to ballet and modern. During her 36-year tenure at Towson University, she co-founded the dance for the camera curriculum at Towson University with her friend and colleague, Greg Faller, and made eight dances for the camera – which were selected for screening at both domestic and international film festivals, and notably winning the “Best Experimental Short Film” at the California International Film Festival. Her dances for the camera have been selected four times for the prestigious American Dance Festival’s International Movies by Movers, and she has also received the Maryland Individual Artist Award for her proscenium choreography and solo dance performance. Susan lives in rural northwest Maryland with her husband and three corgi dogs, and enjoys running with her dogs in agility classes, gardening, and horseback riding with Laura Beetle.
