Confidentiality Checklist

It is important for you to protect the confidentiality of your students when you are preparing your edTPA portfolio. Your portfolio will still be scored if you forget to remove a reference, but this is a key professional responsibility. When you submit edTPA, you attest that you have followed the confidentiality guidelines. Use the following checklist to make sure that you have removed any identifying information.

Written Materials

Look at your lesson plans.

  • Did you remove your name?
  • Did you remove the name of your school?
  • Did you remove any references to Towson University?

Look at your Context for Learning.

  • Did you remove any references to Maryland? (Instead, you can refer to “the state department of education.”
  • Did you remove any references to a particular county? (Instead, you can refer to “the county curriculum.”)
  • Did you remove the names of any students you are working with?

Look at your work sample(s).

  • Did you remove the name of your focus student(s)? (If you have more than one, you can label the work samples Focus Learner 1, Focus Learner 2, etc.)
  • Did you remove any references to a particular county on handouts? (You can block out a footer that includes the county’s name.)

Look at your commentaries.

  • Did you remove the names of any students in your class?
  • Did you remove any references to a particular county? (Instead, you can refer to “the county curriculum.”)

Video Evidence

Before you record your videos:

  • Did you make sure that any students who do not have permission to be recorded are seated in a place where their faces will not be visible?
  • Did you remove or cover up any classroom displays that refer to a specific school, city, or state?
  • Remember to use students’ first names only while recording.

Look at the video clips you selected.

  • Did you blur out any students’ faces who did not have permission to be recorded?
  • Did you only upload your video evidence to Watermark (no other platforms)?
  • Remember that videos must not be posted or shared publicly in any way.
