September 2025: Sustainable Tigers Newsletter

September 2025
Sustainable Tigers September Newsletter

Hello Sustainable Tigers!
Welcome to the inaugural Office of Sustainability Newsletter, your source for green news, events, and inspiration. This fall, TU is developing a Sustainability & Climate Action Plan (SCAP), which will guide sustainable initiatives over the coming years. We want to hear from you, so please be on the lookout for SCAP-related surveys and events.

First-year students choose their key concern
This summer we welcomed the incoming class of 2029. We wanted to know what sustainability-related issue is most important to them. The results are in: Responsible Consumption was the winner! Thanks to all who voted. We’ll make sure to share information on this topic throughout the year!

Thrift Store Tour: Sept 6, 11am – 3pm
The Towson area is a great place to find clothes and home décor at a deep discount – there’s so many thrift stores! Join the Office of Sustainability on a Thrift Store Bus Tour sponsored by Plato’s Closet and the Office of Housing and Residence Life. We’ll visit Savers, Plato’s Closet and Uptown Cheapskate on a private bus, with all transportation expenses paid so you can spend all your money at the stores. Tigers who present their OneCard at Plato’s Closet will receive 15% off at checkout! Buses will leave and return from the Union Garage Bus slip/stop. Registration is full, but you can join the waitlist.

Turf Wars: Sept 19, 1:30pm – 3:00pm
TU’s Turf Wars is BACK. Will the Women’s Club Field Hockey defend their title against the Women’s Club Rugby team? Join us, for the Second Annual Turf Wars, a Glen Arboretum clean-up showdown in honor of World Clean Up Day. This September, we’re giving away bragging rights and one free hour of field rental at a private VOLO Baltimore venue! A big thanks to VOLO Baltimore for sponsoring this sustainability showdown. For any questions, please contact sustainability@towson.edu.

Join a Green Organization
There are lots of ways to get involved with sustainable activities at TU! You can start by being a part of one of the many green clubs on campus.
Some examples:
  • Eco Reps – for sustainably conscious residents
  • Food Recovery Network – help distribute leftover food to those in need
  • Student Environmental Organization – holds cleanups on campus and beyond
  • Thrifty Tigers – your resource for learning about thrifting
Check out the TU Involvement Fair or Involved@TU to find the club for you!

Need funding?
Check out the SGA Sustainability Fund! This fund is for sustainable projects and initiatives never implemented on campus by individual students and/or student organizations. Applications must be submitted at least four weeks prior to your event/program/initiative. For questions, contact SGA.
