Goats in the Glen, April 2, 2025, 10:00am- 2:00pm, The Glen

The goats are back in the Glen, and you won’t want to miss it!

Join us on April 2, from 10 AM to 2 PM, to witness our grazing goats as they tackle invasive plants on campus (and look cute while doing it).

The Office of Sustainability will share insights about the goats, including how they are an eco-friendly solution for managing invasive species in Maryland. We invite you to participate in this experience and take plenty of pictures, but remember: while you can admire our goat friends, please don’t pet them!

Your support helps promote sustainable practices in our community!

Arbor Day Celebration, April 2, 2025, from 1:00pm to 2:00 pm, Glen small pavilion

The 2025 Arbor Day Celebration will highlight Towson University’s seventh year of being recognized as a Tree Campus USA Higher Education designee and Maryland People Loving and Nurturing Trees (PLANT) Awardee.

The event will take place from 1 pm to 2 pm in the small pavilion located in The Glen, near the open grassy area by the challenge course (off the main pathway). The rain location is University Union 325AB. The site was selected for its adjacency to the site for the ceremonial tree and its proximity to the goats, who will be on display.

This year’s celebration includes a ceremonial planting of a Bracken’s Brown Beauty Magnolia. Donna Anderson will welcome guests and discuss the significance of the selected tree. The president will be asked to provide remarks, read the Arbor Day proclamation, receive the official plaque, and participate in the ceremonial planting (one shovel of dirt on the tree).  Presidential photo opportunities include the plaque presentation, tree planting, and goats.

The Office of Sustainability and EcoTone (the vendor who planted the new stream restoration near West Village) will be tabling with educational materials on invasive species and tree care. Cookies will be provided by Weis.

Climate Change in A Community: Planetarium Event, April 18, 2025, 12:00pm-1:00pm, Planetarium Science Complex

The Office of Sustainability invites you to experience the TU premier of the film Climate Change in a Community, in honor of Earth Month for free. This film explores the impact of climate change in Colorado. After the event, Dr. Michael Allen (Department of Geography and Environmental Planning) will answer questions and offer insights into how climate change affects communities. Joining him will be Christian Ready (Department of Physics). Don’t miss this opportunity to watch, ask, and learn about climate change!
