Stephanie M. Moody is an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education. She earned her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas and worked as an elementary teacher in an urban, public school district for a decade before pursuing her Master’s and Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University.
Her doctoral program of study combined instruction for young English language learners and early literacy instruction with practice-based teacher education. She is particularly interested in how high-leverage practices can be used to prepare preservice teachers for ELL writing instruction.
Her publications include articles in The Reading Teacher, TESL-EJ, The New Educator, Literacy Research and Instruction, Cogent Education, and many more. She has also co-authored several book chapters. She has written about translanguaging and shared reading as well as preservice teacher preparation. Stephanie has presented at many national and international conferences including AERA, TESOL, and NCTE. She was awarded the Ruth Crymes Award for Graduate Study from TESOL in 2017.
Stephanie teaches courses in early literacy, including Writing Techniques for Teachers of Early Childhood Education, Foundations of Language Arts, and Early Childhood Assessment. She also supervises interns in the field and advises early childhood education majors.
