towson University College of Business and Economics Dean in Stephesn Hall

Dr. Shohreh Kaynama has led the College of Business and Economics’ strategic, academic, and outreach pursuits for over 17 years. Under her leadership the college has grown to host the largest AACSB-accredited undergraduate business program in Maryland—all while maintaining prestigious AACSB International Accreditation for both its business and accounting programs.

Dr. Kaynama has forged many dynamic partnerships between the college, university, and community, built the college’s advisory board, significantly increased database, travel, and summer research grant funding and spearheaded a collaborative strategic planning process for CBE, which was adopted by the university as a model for other departments.

She has championed numerous innovative academic initiatives to meet student and workforce needs. Among them are the T. Rowe Price Finance Lab, Behavioral Lab, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Well-Suited Wardrobe. During her tenure, CBE added new academic programs —most recently TU’s first undergraduate certificate in Entrepreneurship. At the undergraduate level she ushered in the financial planning, investments, and data analytics tracks, the project management and business analysis program, the business systems and processes major, and several minors. At the graduate level, her leadership supported the launch of the M.S. in Marketing Intelligence and Maryland’s first M.S. in Supply Chain Management.

Dr. Kaynama has made experiential learning, technology, and communication competencies the core components of the curriculum. Her focus on bringing real-life scenarios into the classroom has led to competitions sponsored by some of the region’s leading businesses, including Perdue Farms, Under Armour, SECU, Stanley Black & Decker, J.P. Morgan Chase, Cintas, and McCormick.
