The Department of the Army Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students currently enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work and get paid while exploring federal careers through a job with the Department of the Army. Full Time and Part Time Schedules may be available to accommodate course schedule.

Positions are open to current students pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution.
Duties
As an intern, within one of our many directorates located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. you will be assigned to a senior specialist or group of specialists. You will be assigned tasks designed to familiarize you with different aspects of the occupation, and receive on the job training. Tasks will vary depending on the senior specialist’s current workload, but may include the following:
- Assist senior specialists in conducting program functions.
- You will learn system maintenance requirements and specifications, programming, equipment publications as well as applicable logistics regulations policies, procedures and instructions.
- Attend meetings and conferences to observe the proceedings.

Qualifications
To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-02, students must have completed High School or GED program.
To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-03, students must have completed one full academic year of post-high school study. One full academic year is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent one year of full-time study.
To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-04, students must have completed two full academic years of post-high school study, or have an associate’s degree. Two full academic years is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent two years of full-time study.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills abilities) in the following areas:
- Knowledge of business and industry concepts
- Skill in using automated data collection
- Ability to analyze
- Ability to communicate effectively
NOTE: A copy of your transcripts AND proof of at least half time enrollment MUST be submitted at the time of application. You may be required to submit additional copies of transcripts prior to your appointment.

- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship at the time of your conversion to permanent employment. NOTE: This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance throughout the duration of employment. US Citizenship is required to obtain this clearance, proof of US Citizenship will be required prior to initial internship appointment.
- The duration of a Pathways appointment is a trial period.
- Direct Deposit of Pay is Required.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Students are required to remain in good academic standing which is defined as initially possessing a grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 or higher and maintaining it while employed in the Pathways Internship Program.
- Students are required to stay enrolled at least half-time per semester to continue participation in the Pathways Internship Program and provide verification (transcripts) of successful completion of course every semester.
- Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement must be signed upon appointment.
