How to Stay Productive During Winter Break

As the fall semester comes to a close, students are ready to relax until next semester. But with all the free time available during break, it’s a shame not to take advantage of it and stay productive. Students can explore opportunities to have a meaningful break by investing your free time in yourself and your future career. This winter, try these few tips to help to keep you active, focused, and mentally prepared for next semester.

Perfect your resume and cover letter

Depending on where you are in your college career, you’ll soon be an expert at creating a strong and professional resume. A strong resume is critical when applying for jobs and internships. Use this time to edit your resume and create mock cover letters. If you’re not sure how to get started, The Career Center offers a wide range of online resources such as sample resumes, to help you with your job search and other career-related needs.

Work/Search for a job or internship

Use this time to build and expand your professional network. Looking for extra ways to make cash? Apply for jobs. Graduating soon? Begin your job/internship hunt by taking time to research companies you are interested in.

Search online job postings, update your LinkedIn profile, and spread the word to your network. Use resources like Handshake and LinkedIn to launch and develop your career.

Plan out your next semester

Know exactly what you need to do and when. Finalize your class schedule for next semester and review your academic requirements and degree completion plan. Determine the remaining courses you need to take and the grades needed in those courses to ensure you’re on the right track.

Travel

Expand your mind by experiencing something new. Escape the winter weather by spending time in a new and warm place. If traveling abroad isn’t an option, plan a day trip to the closest city or explore a state you’ve never been to.

Relax

It is a break after all, so it’s important to set aside time to rest and recover.

It’s important to stay motivated, active, and productive until the spring semester. Giving yourself a break is very important, but don’t forget that next semester is quickly approaching.
