Career Center
The Career Center is a great tool to use because, first and foremost, it is staffed by caring experts who want you to excel professionally. They work side by side with students to give you more personalized advice in order to help you understand who you are and what you want to do post-graduation. The Career Center here on campus also offers many different resources to students who are trying to take the next steps for professional development. Some of these services include reviewing of resumes, career and personal life advice appointments, recommendations based on your major, and also different networks that allow you to search and apply for different jobs and internships everywhere – one of the larger databases being a network called Handshake.
Handshake
The featured network of the Career Center is Handshake, which is a great tool for helping students find jobs as well as internships. Handshake has thousands of different participating employers who post a variety of different positions including part- time and full-time jobs as well as internships that can be unpaid or paid. You can also upload your resume to Handshake, register for different career events on- and off-campus and also sign-up for on-campus interviews. Employers can also find you based off your personalized profile. With that being said, you want to make sure that your profile stays up-to-date and that all of your information is as accurate as possible.
Accounting Open House
Another great opportunity if you are an Accounting major to enhance your career is our Accounting Open House which will be held on Friday from 12-3 p.m in the West Village Commons Ballrooms. You may still attend the open house if you are not an Accounting major and you just have an interest in accounting. There will be many employers there who are looking to hire. You want to make sure that you dress professionally, have many copies of your resume to give to employers, and research companies that will be in attendance to know who your priorities are. You can even set up a mock interview with the Career Center beforehand so that you are more comfortable talking to employers.
All of the things mentioned above are great opportunities to jumpstart your career or maybe enhance it in ways that you haven’t been able to before. With the Career Center also being a part of your tuition, take full advantage of everything they have to offer because it can benefit you greatly.
