About AACSB Accreditation
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) is the primary certifier of quality in business education worldwide; it is the premier accrediting agency for bachelors, masters, and doctoral degree programs in both business and accounting. The professional organization challenges schools to pursue excellence and evaluates them according to a set of standards. AACSB’s standards are qualified by the institution’s mission, its academic programs, and its faculty qualifications and contributions to the field.
Accreditation from AACSB is the highest distinction that business schools can receive worldwide. Less than 5% of business schools worldwide are AACSB-accredited for their business programs and less than 1% are AACSB accredited for both business and accounting; Towson’s College of Business and Economics is accredited by the AACSB for both its business administration and accounting programs, making it part of the elite 1%. Towson’s CBE first received AACSB accreditation for its business administration program in 1992, followed by the accreditation of its accounting program in 1994. This accreditation demands that our business and accounting programs are of the highest quality. Through this we receive recognition for our impact, innovation, and engagement, both in the classroom and in the greater community.
What Does This Mean to Me?
According to bestbizschools.com, AACSB-accredited schools have better programs, better faculty, better students, higher overall GPAs, more international students, more employers that recruit from them, and higher post-graduate salaries. Many companies even reimburse tuition for employees educated at AACSB-accredited business schools. Landing a job that pays well and provides generous benefits increasingly depends on having a college degree; knowledge of the field and the ability to apply it is one of the most sought-after skills that employers seek in new graduates.
