“The E-Business major has been around for a long time; and during that time, business use of technology has evolved. When we began the program, the use of technology to drive business processes and on-line consumer engagement was in its infancy. The time had come to do a major reboot of the curriculum to better prepare students for today’s career opportunities.”
– Dr. Tobin Porterfield, Department Chair & Associate Professor of E-Business & Technology
About the Major
Towson’s College of Business and Economics has just launched a new major this year! The Business Systems and Processes (BSAP) major provides a strong technical background for students who are interested in improving business strategies efficiently. Due to rapidly developed and advanced technology, students will be learning how enterprise-wide applications are efficiently utilized. This major also allows students to expand their analytical skills and also their knowledge of using state-of-the-art software.
For Current/Pre-Existing E-Business Students:
New changes are underway! E-Business (EBUS) has now been renamed to Business Systems & Processes (BSAP). Take a look in how your updated curriculum includes earning the SAP Recognition Award, one of the most in-demand IT skills and a competitive advantage on the job market.
- What is the SAP Recognition Award?
SAP stands for Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing. SAP is the market leader in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. Business organizations and companies use ERP software to manage cross-functional business processes, such as: planning, purchasing, inventory, sales, finance, customer relationship management, human resources, and more.
Additional changes:
- EBTM 367 e-Business & Infrastructure will be replaced by EBTM 330 ERP Systems Analysis and Design for Fall 2018.
- EBTM 431 Advanced e-Business will be replaced by EBTM 360 ERP Systems Configuration for Spring 2019.
I’m Not a BSAP Major – Can I Still Earn the SAP Recognition Award?
The answer is yes! To earn the SAP Recognition Award, you have the choice of choosing three of the four required courses: EBTM 310, EBTM 360, EBTM 370 and/or EBTM 400. The SACS office suggests students speak with the EBTM Department, located in Stephens Hall, Room 314, for more additional information.
I’m Not a BSAP Major – Can I Take This as a Second Major?
The answer is also yes! Business Administration students can declare BSAP as a second major; the coolest part is that it will only require 4-5 extra courses depending on their BUAD concentration. Usually, it takes more than 5 courses to earn a second major, so this is a great opportunity for students to earn a high business credential with the interest of Business Systems and Processes.
For Pre-Business Students:
Are you comfortable with technology and do you want to learn more about business? The BSAP major is designed for individuals who aspire to learn how to use technology effectively to meet business strategies and goals. BSAP is a screened major – this means there are certain requirements that must be met before being admitted into the major.
