Welcome Back, CBE Tigers!

Welcome back, all new and returning CBE Tigers! We hope that you all had a safe, relaxing break and are ready to start the spring semester on a high-note. Included in today’s article are some general reminders to help make the transition into the semester a little easier.

Know the Spring 2018 Academic Calendar

It is always helpful to be familiar with the academic calendar for the upcoming semester. This includes the change of schedule period, spring break dates, and withdrawal deadline.

Here are some important dates:

Change of Schedule period (last day to add/drop a course) January 29 – February 6
Spring Break March 18 – 25
Withdrawal deadline (last day to withdrawal from a course with a grade of “W”)* April 9

*Make sure to properly withdrawal from a course if you plan to stop attending; you should avoid receiving a grade of “FX” since it will negatively affect your GPA

Get Involved!

It is not too late to join a club or organization! The College of Business and Economics offers a variety of different student-led groups here on campus. A few of the organizations are the TU Investment Group, American Marketing Association (AMA), and the Project Management Association (PMA).

How to Register for Disability Support Services (DSS) and Be Granted Accommodations

If you need to register for disability support through DSS, you must do so as soon as possible. To register with Towson University’s Disability Support Services, submit an application along with documentation of your disability and contact the DSS office or review the documentation guidelines if you have any questions. A DSS Specialist will contact you to schedule a meeting for a personal interview to discuss your disability, reasonable accommodations, and support services. Remember that your professors are not obligated to provide any accommodations unless a student is enrolled with DSS before requesting an accommodation.

Once you have registered, be sure to pick up your accommodations memo each semester from the DSS office. This document confirms your registration and outlines any approved accommodations. Keep in mind that you must provide a physical copy of this document to each of your professors within the first two weeks of the semester, and discuss the implementation of any approved assistance in each course. You must also keep in contact with your DSS Specialist; they are available to assist you with your academic progress, provide any additional resources (if needed), and help both you and your professors with implementing accommodations as they relate to specific course or program requirements.

You can visit the DSS website for more information and access to forms. You can also contact Disability Support Services via phone at 410-704-2638, or visit the DSS office in the Administration Building, Room 232-235.

We are glad to have all of you back at TU, and we’ll see you next week for another edition of CBE Connect!
