How did you finish out this past semester? Did you receive the grades you were expecting? What are your next steps to getting closer to graduation? These are some questions you should ask yourself after every semester to make sure you are on the right track academically.
Freshmen
At this point, if you are a full-time student, you have just received your first 12-15 college credits. If you are not satisfied with your current GPA, then with this upcoming semester, find new strategies such as tutoring and different study habits to raise it. If you are satisfied with your GPA after your first college semester then keep up the good work! It is also fine to begin looking at different jobs and internships that interest you, but there is no rush. You want to make sure that your grades are good first and foremost.
Sophomores
As a sophomore, your GPA is even more important than when you were a freshman. Again, if you don’t feel comfortable with your GPA, you should probably make some changes to your study habits because soon you’ll be starting the most important classes of your college career, which are your upper- level classes. Also, at this point you should be around the range of 24- 30 credits. Many students also begin their job/ internship search during their sophomore year.
Juniors
By your junior year, you should be admitted into your major and taking upper-level classes. At this point, you should be around 60 credits. Your GPA also needs to be at its peak because this is the information you will be sending to companies that you are applying to for internships or jobs. You want to make sure that you are applying to positions that have a direct correlation with your major or area of study. You also want to make sure that you’re planning for the BUSX460 course if you are required to complete it. Last but not least, graduation is near, so you want to start looking into that application and doing everything you need to do to graduate on-time.
Seniors
This is the final stretch! Finish strong seniors! By this time, you should be working with a company, whether it’s for BUSX460 or you’re working on your own. You want to make sure that you finish your classes strong so that you are graduating on-time; at this point, you don’t want to have any setbacks. Keep up the good work all the way until it’s time to walk across the stage.
Good luck to all and see you next Wednesday for another edition of CBE Connect!
