Student Academic and Career Services: Career Advising

Did you know that all business and accounting students are required to do at least one internship before graduation? Did you know that the College of Business and Economics (CBE) has a Student Academic and Career Services (SACS) office on the third floor of Stephens Hall? Separate from the Towson University Career Center, SACS provides CBE students with career support and advising, including:

  • assisting students with internship searches,
  • reviewing resume and cover letter drafts,
  • conducting mock interviews for practice and preparation, and
  • organizing career fairs to connect students with potential employers.

At Towson, senior students in all screened CBE majors (Accounting, Business Administration, and E-Business) are required to take part in the Business Excellence (BUSX) 460 program, a course that combines reflective exercises, guest speakers, and portfolio development with an approved internship experience. Before students can register for the course, they must attend an information session that goes into detail about the course and its requirements.  The course prerequisites for BUSX 460 are: BUSX 301, MNGT 361, MKTG 341, and FIN 331.  These courses all aim to develop students’ business skills and apply them in the professional world. The structure of the BUSX 460 course requires students to complete 120 internship hours in a professional setting and attend seven classes to reflect on their experience throughout the semester. BUSX 460 course requirements ensure that students are successful in the transition from student to professional.

SACS is here to assist and guide students to find and obtain an internship for this course and eventually find a career. Our staff is constantly in contact with multiple companies and organizations that are looking to recruit students specifically from Towson’s College of Business and Economics, so if you are having trouble finding an approved internship experience or you just need help finding a job after graduation, we are located on the third floor of Stephens Hall in Room 301.

Schedule your appointment or take advantage of our walk-in hours on Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.
