Resume Tips
When it comes to resumes, there is a world of advice that will tell you different tips and tricks for letting potential employers know who you are, and why they should hire you. However, before putting anything on your resume, you need to understand what purpose it serves. Most people will use the same resume for all jobs and internships, but this puts the candidate at a real disadvantage. Your resume should be unique for the organizations and their respective positions. The purpose of the resume is to exhibit your particular knowledge, skills, abilities (KSA’s), and experience to prove that you are the best candidate to fit the job description.
In your objective, you will want to highlight KSA’s that the employing organization can confidently identify or relate to. The objective should also state the organization’s name and desired position, why you desire to fill this position, and what your future aspirations in the particular company are. Your work experience and KSA’s should only serve to validate your objective. When adding work experience, put experience that is relevant to the position you are applying for. In a case where your work experiences do not relate to a give job description, try your best to fit the experience that you do have into qualities that would be desirable for position.

Interviewing Tips
When preparing for an interview, it is important to understand the organization’s expectations, values, and guidelines for the job you are applying for. Understanding the atmosphere of an organization can give you insight into what your interview will look like. You may be able to distinguish what kind of personal characteristics the organization may be looking for. Try browsing the organization’s website, as it may hold some keywords that interviewers are more receptive to. This will help you stand out as a candidate, making your interview more memorable.
Confidence can make or break you during an interview; it can show how comfortable you are with your capabilities in the face of a professional opportunity. Practicing mock interviews will get you more comfortable in an interview setting, building your confidence for the day of the interview. Towson’s Career Center offers mock interviews, as well as CBE’s Student Academic and Career Services (SACS) right here in Stephens Hall! This means that if you’re a business student at TU, you have two professional and reliable sources available on campus. Towson’s Career Center has placed general guides and tips on their website to help students refine their skills and prepare for the big day.
SACS is here to help students achieve and reach their careers goals. Please keep an eye out every Wednesday for new articles from CBE Connect, where we provide students with tips and resources for graduating and getting that job.
