Here in the College of Business and Economics, we offer several different events throughout the school year. Our primary goal with these events is to provide all students the opportunity to network with employers and to enhance any professional skills that will be useful when finding a job or internship. All major events for the fall semester are listed below!
Accounting Open House
Friday, September 22, 2017
12 p.m. – 3 p.m., West Village Commons Ballrooms
The Accounting Open House is a great way for students to look for an internship or job opportunity and connect with top accounting firms in the area. Be sure to dress professionally (wear a suit!) and bring at least 20-30 copies of your resume. You want to be prepared to speak with as many employers as possible to maximize your time at the event.
For additional information on the event and a complete list of participating firms, visit accounting open house details.
CBE Career Ready Day
Friday, October 6, 2017
9 a.m. – 4 p.m., West Village Commons Ballrooms
Starting this fall semester, the College of Business is taking traditional career fairs to the next level. CBE Career Ready Day is an all-day event for business students wishing to engage with top employers from companies who recruit for jobs and internships specifically from Towson. Students will be given an opportunity to network with employers, attend interactive information sessions, and gain more knowledge on BUSX 460. There will also be several chances to win prizes at the event, including a free iPad or $50 gift cards to the TU Bookstore!
In order to attend, you must register beforehand. To do so, please visit the CBE Career Ready Day website. You can also visit this link for more information on participating companies and the breakout sessions. We hope to see you there!
Sales Competition
Friday, October 20, 2017
Start time: 7:30, Stephens Hall
The annual sales competition gives students another chance to engage with business professionals. Students will be given information on a product and will have two weeks to prepare a 20-minute sales presentation to a potential “buyer”. You will be judged on your sales skills, but you do not need to have previous sales experience in order to participate. A workshop will be available to you if you wish to get more knowledge on the sales process before the competition. $1500 is available for first place, $1,000 is awarded for second place, and $500 for third place. First and second place winners will also travel to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the National Collegiate Sales Competition in April.
If you want to compete, contact Professor Plamen Peev, Ph.D. at ppeev@towson.edu. For more information on the fall sales competition, click here.
CBE Fall Case Competition
Friday, November 17, 2017
Stephens Hall
Students will divide into teams and will be given five weeks to develop solutions for real-life business problems and present their ideas to a panel of business professionals. There are two tracks available for the competition: supply chain management and marketing intelligence.
Case competition guidelines can be found here. If you wish to participate, contact Professor Tobin Porterfield, Ph.D. at tporterfield@towson.edu.
We hope to see a lot of CBE students representing Towson well at these events and competitions! Hope you are having a great semester so far, and check back next week for a new edition of CBE Connect!
