Finals Survival Guide

Congratulations! It’s the Final Countdown you are almost done with your semester. Don’t give up yet; finish your semester strong. As Kayla Hedman, from the Huffington Post said, “If I had a nickel for the number of times I have procrastinated in the last two weeks of school more than the entire rest of the semester combined, I’d be rich.” It’s okay Kayla, you are not the only one, and I am pretty sure most of the students reading this article can agree with you. Finals week is when we see students crowding over Starbucks with caffeinated beverages and sugary snacks. But we don’t want that, even though we like the sugary candy and Starbucks. Let’s try to walk away from sleepless nights with piles of things to do.

Here are some life-saving and stress-relieving tips for finals:

  • Try to study ahead. (Remember what I said in the beginning about procrastinating; you actually have to do the job to get the grade)
  • Go to a tutor/professor if you are confused or need help with anything. (Make sure you check tutoring availability)
  • Make an everyday to-do-list. (So you don’t get sidetracked and can work your way through your busy schedule)
  • Take advantage of on-campus final activities like art therapy and free coffee. (They have this every day during finals, so make sure to check your T³ – Daily Announcements email for the details)
  • Do what you do best, sleep. (No sleep for more than 24 hours straight will hamper your memory, your ability to focus, and you will not be able to think or study for the exam)
  • Take a break, go out and have fun. Studying 24/7 is not good for your health or your brain.
  • The final and most important tip: “DON’T SLEEP THROUGH YOUR FINAL EXAM” (trust me, I speak from personal experience!)

Finally: Don’t forget Cook Library will be open 24/7 for the finals period. Yeah, that’s what I am talking about! So go study and get that ‘A’ that you deserve.

P.S – Don’t be this guy   and make sure to get there in time for the exam.
