Please participate in the following anonymous study (if eligible), and/or pass it along to other interested parties. What an interesting and important topic!

My name is Sobia Ali-Faisal. I am currently a PhD Candidate working under the supervision of Dr. Charlene Senn in the Department of Psychology at the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario. For my dissertation I am investigating Muslims’ beliefs about relationships and sex. If you are eligible for my study I would kindly ask you to consider participating in my project. To be eligible you must be Muslim, living in Canada or the US as a citizen or permanent resident, and be between the ages of 18 and 35.

Participation would involve doing an online survey which should take approximately 45 minutes to complete. This research is on Muslims’ attitudes regarding relationships and sex so there will be some sex related questions on the survey. However, your responses will be completely confidential (and a Canadian server is being used) and any information that could identify you (your draw entry) is kept separate and cannot be matched to your responses.

I would also ask that you ask others who are eligible to participate. There is very little empirical research on this topic and your help in adding to this knowledge would be appreciated.

For those who complete the survey there will be an opportunity to enter a draw for one of five $100 cash prizes as well.

If interested please follow the link below and please share if you feel comfortable doing so.

If you are eligible but would rather fill out the survey in paper form instead of online then please email me, Sobia Ali-Faisal, at ali1l@uwindsor.ca. The paper survey will be mailed to you.

This study has received the clearance of the University of Windsor Research Ethics Board. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me at ali1l@uwindsor.ca or respond to this message.

Thank you!

This new volume contains the most up-to-date information on assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) throughout the Muslim world–especially in Arab countries, Iran, and Turkey. The chapters point beyond ARTs  alone, to consider how Islamic law, culture, and other factors influence biomedical ethics among Muslims.

If you are a South Asian living in the USA, please consider filling out the anonymous research study below. Not feeling particularly altruistic? Completing the survey qualifies you for a chance to win $250 to the Apple store.

Dear South Asian community member:

I am writing to request your assistance in helping health professionals understand some of the unique health issues and concerns that South Asians face in the United States.  By understanding these issues, I hope to be able to increase awareness about the importance of South Asian health and secure resources to prevent disease and promote health among our important population.

The following link takes you to a survey that will take approximately 15 – 20 minutes to complete.  It will not ask you about any identifying information, only questions about some of your beliefs and behaviors.  For your time and effort in completing the survey, you will be entered in a drawing for a $250.00 gift card from the Apple store.  Once you finish, you will be taken to another site where you can simply put in any email address that you are able to access to be considered for the raffle prize.

Please click on this link to be taken to the survey:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SCSAFBO052312

In addition, please feel free to forward this email to any South Asian friends, colleagues, or family members who might be interested in helping us better understand the health issues of South Asians.

I thank you for taking the time to consider this request and hope that you do take the survey to help us understand how to improve the health of our community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Arnab Mukherjea

Welcome to the site!

Check out the links for information on biomedical ethics and Islam–as well as on the study of Islam and religious studies in general. Future posts will touch on these and related topics, including my work with the Contending Modernities program. Students (and potential students) will find syllabi posted under the tab for courses. Thanks for stopping by.
