Message from the Dean

Many people have twists and turns in their professional pursuits, and no two journeys are the same. This was certainly true for me.

As a child growing up, and even as an adult, I wanted to be an architect. I was drawn to beautiful buildings and wanted to create them myself.

By the time I came to Towson University, I took many types of general education courses and decided to major in business. I went on to get my MBA with the idea of working eventually in marketing. As a graduate assistant, I was assigned to teach a course I wasn’t excited about. Even though my mother, who was my hero and closest mentor, was a teacher and I had a lot of respect for the profession, I never thought it was for me.

After teaching my first course in marketing, I was hooked. The rest is history.

I continued to teach for a few years after I became dean of the college—another unexpected turn—but it’s been several years since I taught a course. To be honest, I am itching to go back.

At CBE, we’re in the business of providing education, training and opportunities to help people pursue their dreams. While those dreams may shift or change completely while they’re students or once they graduate, the knowledge, skills and attitudes our grads gain here at TU will serve them well wherever their career paths take them.

I know. I speak from experience.
