How can I plan an experience that is right for me?
You learn a lot about yourself during the process of choosing the right program. There are a lot of questions you should ask yourself when considering studying abroad or away.
First, ask yourself what goals you want to gain from this experience. Does it fall under academic, personal, or professional? It is important to understand how your program will benefit you in the future.
Second, think about your financial options. We offer institutional scholarships for undergraduate and graduate degree seeking students participating in international study abroad programs.
Next, identify your travel style. This step is where you will begin to learn a lot about yourself and your ambitions. Would you rather be with other students from Towson University, or would you rather be independent? Would you prefer to participate in a short-term program, or would a long-term program benefit you the most?
Lastly, understand what cultural experience you are looking for and the necessities to prepare. Depending on the program, you will experience some form of culture shock. However, if you enter the program with a beginner’s mindset, then you will surely gain cultural awareness. Now you might be wondering, what do I need to do to prepare? Research the country your program will be in. Educating yourself on the customs of your host country will benefit you tremendously.
