Short reflection of your favorite memory from your time abroad:
“One of my favorite memories was when I got the opportunity to have lunch in a small town called: Birbury, Warwickshire, United Kingdom about two hours outside of London. I loved being able to explore the scenery and culture in the areas outside of London.”
Your advice to current TU students who may be considering studying abroad in the future:
“If you do not think you can fit studying abroad into your fall or spring schedule look for programs offered during the winter, summer, spring break, or even get connected to smaller lengthened programs during your breaks through other universities. I was able to get credit for one of my core classes by studying abroad during the winter minimester with another university’s program. Try and start early and don’t give up on your research. It might take time to find a program right for you, but when you finally do it is so worth it! Also do not be afraid to go places by yourself! (As long as you can do so safely). There were so many places I explored on my own, and remember that this is your study abroad experience and to prioritize what you want to do even if you have to go by yourself. Lastly make sure to explore the places outside the city you are in not just the big touristy places. There are many beautiful towns that will really let you experience the culture. ”
Christine also agreed to do a follow-up interview with our office to share more about her study abroad experience in detail. She shared that the most rewarding part of experience was traveling by herself. Christine said said it was very rewarding to get to travel outside of London and explore other parts of England on her own. The most challenging experience was gaining the confidence to go out on her own since many of the places she was interested in going, other people in her program were not interested. Christine also added that not having a cellphone plan was difficult. She also believes that study abroad has provided her with skills in the future, as it taught her to be on her own and be more independent, which are important life skills. Christine then shared one of the highlights of her experience was seeing a woman lead a religious mass, which was something she has never seen before.
We want to thank Christine for her time in doing this interview and were happy to learn more about her experience. It is great seeing our students use apply what they learned abroad to their future. Check back for more graduation spotlights! #TUProud #HowBigIsYourWorld
