CEA Business, Communications & Liberal Arts (French Riviera, France)
Laura Bastings is a Mass Communications major with a minor in Marketing, from Brookeville, MD. She will be studying abroad in the French Riviera during the Spring 2016 semester.
Q: How did you learn about the scholarship, and what do you think made your personal statement stand out to reviewers?
A: Since I am studying abroad with CEA, I checked their website for scholarship opportunities. I applied for two scholarships on their website and was awarded with the global experience scholarship. I have a true passion for travel and connect personally with the French culture and made sure to show this passion in my writing. I researched the town that I will be staying in, Antibes, and incorporated this information. For example, I mentioned the train system I look forward to using and the markets I look forward to browsing through.
Q: What are you most looking forward to about your experience?
A: My parents moved here from Europe right before I was born so I look forward to thoroughly experiencing the culture that is part of my family’s history. I’m excited to live in an apartment on top of a store and be really immersed in the culture.
Q: How did this scholarship help make this experience a reality?
A: I want to take advantage of being in Europe by backpacking for 6 weeks after my program. This scholarship will help me to allocate more funds towards this experience.
Q: What your plans for the future and do they include any international aspirations?
A: Traveling has always been a huge part of my life and I hope to continue to do so throughout college and beyond. I would love to have a job that involves travel or at least gives me enough vacation time to do so. The more I see of the world, the more I want to travel.
