Gilman Recipient for Spring 2016

We’re proud to announce that yet another Towson University student has been selected to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to study abroad in Spring 2016.

PaytonAldridgeTowson junior, Payton Aldridge, of Parkville, Maryland is a Psychology major with a minor in Disability Studies. During her time abroad, she hopes to immerse herself in the culture more than just any old tourist would. She is also passionate about helping individuals with disabilities, as her minor suggests. She states, “when I return from my semester abroad, I would like to create a program that would help encourage Towson students with disabilities to study abroad.” Aldridge will be spending a semester at the University of Cape Town in Cape Town, South Africa.

Gilman scholars receive up to $5,000 to apply towards their study abroad or internship program costs. The program aims to diversify the students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go. Scholarship recipients have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of other cultures, countries, languages, and economies — making them better prepared to assume leadership roles within government and the private sector.
