We are Towson University’s chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists of America. Our mission is to educate and organize students, university workers, and others connected to the school or surrounding community to play a helpful and principled role in the movement for true social justice. Throughout this struggle, we will articulate and defend the idea that true human liberation is unachievable under our current system of capitalism. We seek social changes which extend democracy into all aspects of life — social, political, and economic. This is the struggle for democratic socialism. Our vision of democratic socialism is a class-centered movement which is unapologetically inclusive, feminist, and anti-racist.
Active Campaigns
Divestment
In May 2024, we passed a resolution in the Student Government Association calling on the TU Foundation to divest from companies and funds complicit in the genocide in Palestine. Edna Primrose, President of the TU Foundation, went on record expressing openness to working with students and SGA, however the Foundation is yet to follow through. We are continuing our pressure campaign on the Foundation to meet with us and divest.
Student Solidarity Coalition
We founded this coalition at the start of the Spring 2025 semester and it now comprises over 25 student organizations. We successfully pressured Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to drop out of the Spring 2025 Mega Job and Internship Fair. We advocate for divestment and oppose Project 2025 on our campus and broader community. We also host the Student-Worker Town Hall, an event where students from diverse backgrounds come together, connect over the issues we face, and plan collective action. Our inaugural Town Hall was held in the Fall 2024 semester. As a united coalition of organizations, we fight to make campus better for students, faculty, and staff.
