Financial planning program gets seal of approval from certifying organization

The College of Business and Economics’ business administration major with a track in financial planning is now a CFP Board Registered Program.

CFP Board-Registered Programs are financial planning education programs at the college or university level that meet specific criteria for educating individuals who wish to fulfill the education component for obtaining CFP® certification, which is the standard of excellence for competence and integrity in financial planning.

An independent certifying organization, CFP Board owns the CFP® and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM certification marks, which it awards to individuals who meet its education, examination, experience, ethics and other requirements.  Students completing the financial planning track will have met the education requirement for CFP® Certification Examination administered by CFP Board.

The financial planning track was developed using the CFP body of knowledge with input and support of faculty members in the department of finance, CFP professionals and CBE alumni. The program was created to meet the growing demand for qualified financial advisers.

“As student interest in financial planning as a career continues to grow, we anticipate that Towson University’s program will contribute significantly to the number of qualified candidates seeking to attain the CFP® certification,” said Mike R. Greene, CFP®, chair of CFP Board’s Board of Directors.
