Meet the 2018 Baltimore Business Review contributors.

REgis BreenRegis Breen is an undergraduate senior majoring in Business Administration with a Concentration in International Business at Towson University. As President for the Towson University Investment Group, he strives to promote campus and community outreach. Regis currently holds an internship at Heritage Financial Consultants, a financial planning firm in Hunt Valley, MD. Following his graduation in May of 2018, he plans to complete the CFP program.

 

Tuugi ChuluunTuugi Chuluun, CFA, is an Associate Professor of Finance at Loyola University Maryland. Tuugi conducts research in corporate finance and international finance and has published her work in peer-reviewed academic journals such as Journal of Banking & Finance. Her research was also featured on popular websites such as HBR.org and Inc.com. She holds a Ph.D in Finance from Georgia Institute of Technology, Master’s in Financial Economics and Bachelor’s degree in Economics with honors from Ohio University. She has consulting experience and has served on the CFA Society Baltimore board since 2013.

 

Nicola DanielNicola Daniel is Executive Director of CFA Society of Baltimore. She spearheads key initiatives to promote awareness of the CFA charter, and continuing education on cutting-edge research and trends in the financial services industry for CFA society members. Nicola served a research analyst and portfolio manager at Franklin Templeton Investments, in the USA and Hong Kong. She has worked at the IMF and on the World Bank’s trading floor. Nicola graduated from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies with a master’s degree in Economics and China Studies.

 

Michael DewallyMichaël Dewally, Ph.D., Associate Professor in the Finance department, holds a MS in Chemical Engineering from France and a MBA and Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma. Upon graduation with his doctoral degree, he accepted a position at Marquette University in Milwaukee from where he joined Towson University in 2010. Michaël’s research interests are in the fields of Investments and Corporate Governance. His research areas span from the link between corporate governance structure and firm performance to the profits of market participants in the crude oil futures market. His research has appeared in the Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Business, the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Corporate Finance, the Financial Analysts Journal among others.

 

Lijing duLijing Du, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Finance. She received a master in Economics and a Ph.D. in Business from the University of Kansas. Her teaching and research interests include empirical asset pricing anomalies, distress risk, pricing of audit services, and credit derivatives. Her research has appeared in Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting among others.

 

Jasmin FarahaniJasmin Farahani, from Hamburg Germany, is a graduate student at Towson University with an expected graduation of May 2018. She is currently pursuing a MS in Marketing Intelligence. Currently she works as a graduate assistant for the Graduate Student Association. In addition, she received a Research Grant from BGE, comparing State Humanitarian Logistics efforts. In May 2016, she graduate from Towson University with a BA in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business, Project Management & Business Analysis. Her career experience include a research internship at Towson University, examining Cybersecurity Metrics for small and mid-sized businesses, several internships at the Deutsche Bank in Germany and hands-on experience in office administration tasks at MF-Hamburg, Germany.

 

Silas HoxieSilas Hoxie is an undergraduate junior majoring in Business Administration with a Concentration in Finance at Towson University. As Portfolio Manager for the Towson University Investment Group, he researches undervalued investment opportunities in order to grow the groups’ $150,000 portfolio.

Jian Huang, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of finance at College of Business and Economics of Towson University. His research involves corporate finance, investments, and financial analytics. He serves as a co-editor of Baltimore Business Review and has more than ten refereed journal articles to his credit, including publications in Journal of Business Research, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Empirical Finance (lead article), Accounting&Finance, and International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management. He was recognized by the CFA Institute as the advisor of the winning team of the Charted Financial Analyst Global Institute Research Challenge, DC/Maryland region.

 

Adam MaceckAdam Macek is an undergraduate senior majoring in Business Administration with a Concentration in Investments at Towson University. As President for the Towson University Financial Management Association, his goal is to connect students with career opportunities through recruiters, professors, and school resources.

 

Mac MccomasMac McComas is program coordinator at the John Hopkins 21st Century Cities Initiative. He previously served as the Coordinator of Community Outreach Services at the Charles Village Community Benefits District. He serves as the chair of WYPR’s Community Advisory Board, board member of Waverly Main Street, board member of the National Edgar Allan Poe Theatre, and is a mentor at William Pinderhughes Elementary in Sandtown-Winchester, Baltimore. He received his M.A. in Scottish History at the University of Edinburgh and his MLitt in Scottish Historical Studies at the University of St. Andrews with a focus on the socio-economic causes of migration in 19th century Scotland and the Americas.

 

Mary MillerMary J. Miller, CFA, is senior fellow at The Johns Hopkins 21st Century Cities Initiative. Previously, she served as the U.S. Treasury’s Under Secretary for Domestic Finance from 2012 to 2014. Prior to that, she served as Assistant Secretary for Financial Markets at the U.S. Treasury from 2010 to 2012. On her retirement from the Treasury, Mary received the Alexander Hamilton Award for Distinguished Service. Prior to her public service, she spent 26 years in the investment management industry with the T. Rowe Price Group. Mary earned a B.A. from Cornell University and a Master of City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.

 

Niall OMalleyNiall H. O’Malley, MBA, is the Portfolio Manager for Blue Point Investment Management. He leverages a keen understanding of the creative destructive cycle that governs innovation and 12 years of international experience to add value for clients. Niall has a B.A. in Political Science from Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada. He studied for a year at the Institute for European Studies in Vienna, Austria, and received an MBA in Finance and Investments from George Washington University. He passed Level II of the CFA examination. Niall enjoys teaching and has taught Investments and Equity Security Analysis at Towson University.

 

Tobin PorterfieldTobin Porterfield, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of eBusiness & Technology Management at Towson University. His primary research interests include humanitarian supply chain and logistics, team dynamics, and the use of IT in supply chain relationships. Dr. Porterfield teaches courses in operations, supply chain, and project management. He holds a Ph.D. in Logistics from the University of Maryland-College Park. His research has been presented at regional and national conferences as well as being published in such journals as Transportation Journal and The International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management.

 

Shanshan QianShanshan Qian, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Department of Management at Towson University. She received her Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship from University of Louisville and a Master of Science in Marketing from University of Alabama. Her research interests include entrepreneurship education, entrepreneurial entry, entrepreneurs’ moral behavior and decision making, entrepreneurial orientation, and entrepreneurial cognition. She has published journal articles in major entrepreneurship journals, such as Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Small Business Economics, Journal of Small Business Management and so forth.

 

Zachary C. Reichenbach, CFA CPA/ABV,Zachary C. Reichenbach, CFA CPA/ABV, is a Manager in the Forensic and Valuation Services (FVS) Group at Ellin & Tucker, Chartered. His experience includes providing expert witness services and various litigation services for domestic and international commercial damage and valuation engagements. Zach specializes in complex commercial damages, valuation and intellectual property damages. He has extensive experience in preparing and defending damage and valuation related claims in federal and state court. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in business administration from Loyola University Maryland.

 

Ben seigelBen Seigel is executive director at The Johns Hopkins 21st Century Cities Initiative. Previously, he served in the Obama Administration from 2010 to 2016, where he was a senior adviser in the office of Labor Secretary Tom Perez and director of the Labor Department’s Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. In 2015, Ben was tapped by the White House to lead the Obama Administration’s Baltimore Federal Task Force, guiding senior-level staff across more than a dozen agencies to bring enhanced federal assistance to Baltimore in the aftermath of the April 2015 unrest. Previously, Ben was senior vice president at Seedco, a national nonprofit community development organization. Ben holds degrees from Swarthmore College and New York University.

 

Yingying ShaoYingying Shao, Ph.D., CFA, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Finance at Towson University. Prior to receiving her Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Arkansas in 2010, she completed a Master of Science in Finance from the University of Tulsa in 2006, and earned her MBA from the University of Arkansas in 2003. Her research interests, taking root from her many years of experience at Bank of China, include banking, risk management, corporate finance and emerging markets.

 

Annaliese WintonAnnaliese Winton is an undergraduate junior majoring in Economics with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Mathematics at Towson University. Following her graduation, she plans to complete the CFA program and pursue a graduate degree.
